In the far future, even the most common soldiers posses armor of incredible strength and durability, meaning often a great amount of ammunition is needed which can quickly deplete the supply of even a well equipped unit. For this reason, warriors will often choose to engage in hand to hand combat, cutting through armor with a variety of powerful melee weapons, the strongest of which are called Powered Swords.
Powered Swords come in a variety of types, the most basic of which is called the Plasma Saber, a beam of super heated plasma emitted from a small cylindrical handle, the blade is weightless making it fast and easy to wield. The blade is however so hot that an ordinary human would be badly burned just handling the blade, therefore armor is needed for even the weakest of Powered Swords.
The next most powerful type is called an Ion Saber, instead of heat it uses the power of charged ions to tear molecules apart. Ion swords deal damage more surgically than other types of powered swords and can cut through many types of armor quite easily.
The next type is called a Proton Saber, it consists of a beam of super charged quark plasma.
After that comes the Fusion Saber, its blade is like a piece of a star contained by a force field, its heat is so intense it creates a crater of destruction in a 10 ft radius around it and will set any living thing near it on fire.
The most powerful type of Powered Sword is called and Implosion Saber, its blade is made of microscopic black holes that can consume and destroy anything, the blade can also unleash energy and matter in controlled bursts. These blades where first made by the Queldari in ancient times and are still rare and coveted in the far far future.
